Job search, workshops on tap Wednesday

One of the more difficult tasks an individual on probation or parole can encounter is finding gainful employment, even if all obligations to the state have been met.

To help address that need, the Crittenden County office of the Arkansas Department of Community of Corrections will be holding an employment and workforce preparedness this Wednesday, Jan.

20, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the DCC offices, located at 250 Shoppingway, Suite B, in West Memphis.

“The Workforce Bus will be here for the offenders to do job searches,” said Dcc Parole/Probation Officer Markita Kuntze-Thompson. “There is also a series of workshops that will be taking place on Dressing for Success, Interviewing and Application preparation.”

Thompson said each offender will be able to participate in a mock interview to test out what they have learned.

With state prisons and county correctional facilities in Arkansas overcrowded, one of Governor Asa Hutchinsonʼs priorities within revamping the state Department of Corrections is reducing recidivism, keeping those formerly incarcerated from becoming repeat offenders.

Finding gainful employment is one of the keys to keeping parolees and pro- bationers out of prison.
