Local Masons help beautify West Memphis

It was a crisp, fall Saturday morning in West Memphis as crews started from each end, working to make the community a little cleaner. For several years the local Masonic Lodge has been one of the volunteer or ganizations who assist the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department in controlling the litter that is discarded on our highways. Signs placed at the ends of the dedicated mile inform the public that a litter crew is at work. Workers suited up for the trash pickup in distinctive vests with trash bags furnished by the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. One hour later, the job completed, the workers returned to the Lodge for hot coffee, donuts and fellowship. A crew of five collected seven bags of trash from Highway 70 between mile 11.50 and 12.50 in Crittenden County and enjoyed the experience. Participation is strictly voluntary and contracted on a yearly basis.
