Text The Times.
Just wanted to say I have a wonderful paper carrier in Earle, so when the papers were mixed up last week my first reaction was “oh no” I hope they are not sick, then when it happened again I was concerned it might be worse. What if they had to take a second job, so when I read your column later I was relieved. I have a good paper carrier, don’t always think it is their fault when something happens. I still love text the times. Peggy
[ Editor’s Note: I hope no one got so frustrated with their carrier that they set a booby- trap or anything. Glad yours is reliable, and if anyone’s isn’t please let us know. Many of our carriers do have second jobs or have other jobs up here at the paper, so you’re right, it isn’t necessarily their fault when there are issues. Thanks, Peggy]
*** On the morning of Monday December 5, I stopped at Big Star (close to the high school) so that my daughters could get a snack for school. They go in, get snacks and run to car smiling. Excited to tell me what had happened. They say “mom you won’t believe how much our stuff was.” I was like hmmmm maybe $10. They were so happy and excited and say no. I was like how much? I’m a penny pincher so I watch out for sales etc.. So I’m thinking I rubbed off on them a little bit. No, it wasn’t that. An angel in front of them paid for their items. I was so shocked and felt really blessed. No one has EVER done anything like this for me or my babies. I’ve been under alot of stress with not working due to being disabled at the moment. Bills pilling up, car broke down and Christmas right around the corner. I never tell my problems nor do I ask for help. Looking at me and my family you would think oh they’re OK. To whom this lady was that did this for my babies Thank You so much. This act of kindness lets us know there are still good people out here. May God Bless you and Merry Christmas. [ Editor’s Note: That’s a feel- good story for the holiday season if I ever heard one, so I hope it warmed the heart of everyone who read it. In life, many of us have ups and downs, especially when it comes to finances. We’ve been in the “ oh they’re OK” bunch for a while, but I assure you that wasn’t always the case, and it’s good to know that there are people out there who have what I’ve heard at church called a “ heart of discernment” and maybe they just somehow knew that a token of kindness would be appreciated. I’m not cynical enough to think it’s silly that God does indeed put people in our paths for “ a time such as this,” to quote Esther]
*** If you don’t have to go down Barton when school is letting out DON’T GO!!!
[ Editor’s Note: Why are you yelling at me? I didn’t do it. I mean, I do occasionally go down Barton when school is letting out, but it’s to pick up my kid at Bragg. But seriously, the traffic on West Barton in front of West, Bragg and then down the road at Richland is quite the spectacle. The crossing guards do a pretty good job of keeping things flowing, but yeah, every car they don’t have to deal with is one less clog in the drain, so maybe use Roosevelt or Cooper instead?]
