When moving to Marion 20 years ago I checked for my voting location. I was told that I voted in my ward and my wife was assigned to a different location. I offered to sleep in the middle of the bed to get in the same ward but this was not necessary as a major conference was held in low voices and we were assigned the same location. Do away with the wards I don’t need them. This would eliminate current question about at large voting being fair. [ Editor’s Note: As I’ve mentioned before, I see the merits of both methods ( by- ward and at- large voting), but I don’t think you would want to simply do away with the wards altogether, as you’d then run the risk of having entire neighborhoods go without representation on the council… although I’m sure there are some folks who’d be just fine with that]

*** This morning I was doing some master gardener work on the north side of the courthouse when three deputies emerged from the building escorting a female inmate. The inmate was visibly upset and crying. As they approached where I was raking leaves I paused – their voices were in earshot. I heard the female deputy tell the crying inmate, “just need to pray about it” Along with other words of comfort they escorted the lady to the sheriff’s car. I stood impressed that one of our deputies was showing so much love and compassion to the lady prompting her to pray. Prayer changes things, I’m impressed by our sheriff’s department and hats off to Mike Allen and the work our deputies do to bless our community.

[ Editor’s Note: I honestly can’t even fathom what terrible and tragic things our law enforcement and first responder folks run into on a daily basis. I mean, if you think about just what we hear about ( and believe me, I hear about things that will never, ever make the paper), it’s pretty bad. So, it is, indeed, heartwarming to know that they are able to provide at least some compassion and comfort when needed, because they often encounter people at their lowest moments, and even then, they are still people] *** Everybody take the advice Kevin Hart’s mother told him to tell his teacher, “Everybody need to mind their $$#$!#/ business!!” Don’t complain if you are not willing to change the situation!! ***Tired of the complaints*** [ Editor’s Note: Kevin Hart is great and all, but I kind of like the way Kermit the Frog does it better…]
