Friends, family announce ASU Mid- South honorarium on the eve of her 58th birthday

With a goal of honoring the memory of a long-time Crittenden County educator and loved one, the friends and family of Cheryl Jackson Cox have recently established the Cheryl Cox Memorial Scholarship at ASU Mid-South.
The $500 scholarship, which recognizes Cox's educational impact on her family and the students she taught, will be awarded each year to an ASU Mid-South student planning to pursue a career in elementary education. Cheryl Cox was a native of West Memphis and graduated high school at the age of 16. She pursued higher education at ASU Jonesboro completing her Bachelor's Degree in just 3 years.
At the age of 19, she signed her first teaching contract with the Marion School District. Cox spent 37 years as a beloved teacher at Avondale Elementary
