For the second time in recent weeks, there has been a fatal shooting in the City of Earle.

While 31-year-old Marcello Banks is still at large, wanted in connection with the shooting death of Andre Brown three weeks ago, police say they have their man in this latest violent episode.

A suspect is in custody and charged with first degree murder after killing a man in Earle Tuesday, according to the Crittenden County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff’s Department investigators responded to the neighborhood around the Third Street Circle in the town of less than 2,000 residents around 11 p.m. on Tuesday night. On the scene they found a man, later identified as Derrick Lee McKenzie, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, clinging to life.

Although he would ultimately succumb to his injuries, according to the sherriff's department, McKenzie was able to tell officers who had shot him, naming Quency Kegler, 28, also of Earle, as the shooter.

Kegler has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2016 on charges including theft, firearms and felony drug violations.

Criminal investigators who were working the homicide were able to get warrants on Kegler and a search was launched. He was found Wednesday morning on Railroad Street in Earle and taken into custody around 10 a.m..

Kegler was charged with first degree murder and due to his previous convictions was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Kegler is currently in custody at the Crittenden County Jail. He is set to appear today in District Court for arraignment on the felony charges.
