With more rain on the way this past Thursday afternoon, the start time for the softball game between West Memphis and Forrest City got pushed up to 4 p.m. in hopes of getting the game in before the storms arrived.

While the wind was gusting out of the south, assuring there would be no home runs to left field at Tilden Rodgers Park, the ladies did indeed play ball, and from the beginning it was a dominating showing for the Blue Devils.

West Memphis led off the game with a walk from Terra Hardin and the Mustangs did not record an out for eight straight batters. Hits from Kayla Shaull and Kendal Bbrasfield padded the Blue Devils’ lead and by the end of the first inning it was 10-0 West Memphis.

With the score heavily favoring the Blue Devils, the West Memphis pitching went to work. Bella Hinze struck out eight, giving up just two earned runs.

Haley Williams and Presley Kuhn added to the offensive output with two hits apiece, but it was the 13 walks drawn by the West Memphis batters that helped put the game out of reach, and the Blue Devils earned an 18-3 run-rule win to bring their season record to an even 4-4.

JV Devils Undefeated

The future is bright for the Devils’ softball program.

The West Memphis junior varsity squad is undefeated in 2023, going 6-0-1 to start the season. The JV was just two innings into their game with Forrest City on Thursday when the rains finally came and the game was called with West Memphis up 3-1.
