Jacksonville mercy-ruled by 2-0 West Memphis

JACKSONVILLE — It’s a two-hour trip down I-40 to Jacksonville but the long road home is much sweeter when you’re coming off of a blowout win over a conference rival. Such was the case late Friday night when the West Memphis Blue Devils thrashed the Jacksonville Titans 46-8 to pick up their _rst win in the new-look 10team 6A East.

It was all West Memphis from the get-go, as the Blue Devils scored early and often. By halftime, the score was 39-0, triggering the sportsmanship clock and giving Coach Robert Hooks an opportunity to rest his starters and give second-string players some valuable reps, only allowing a lone touchdown for the Titans late in the game.

Detarrius McNary played a big roll is shutting down the Sheridan offense, netting six tackles and a fumble recovery, as well as a defensive touchdown. On the other side of the ball, Dylan Greer came up big, with a pair of touchdowns on four catches and 72 total receiving yards.

With the win, West Memphis improves to 2-0 in the young season. They look to stretch that streak to three games this Friday night when the Blue Devils hit the road for another away game in Central Arkansas, taking on the Sheridan Yellowjackets. Sheridan (1-1) is coming off a win over Searcy last week.

Game time in Sheridan is set for 7 p.m. and can be watched via livestream on the West Memphis Blue Devil Network.

The West Memphis Blue Devils are 2-0 to start the 2022 season, with big wins over Jonesboro and Jacksonville.
