Marion police trace incident to stolen car case in Memphis

ralphhardin@gmail.com Police are still ivestigating an incident from earlier week in a case that stratches across the Mississippi River.

“On Wednesday May 11th, 2022 at 11:24am Marion Police Department was dispatched to Highway 77 near North Currie in reference to possible gunshots being fired,” Marion Police Detective Dustin Burnett explained. “Upon arrival, officers spoke to several witnesses and vehicle descriptions were provided.”

Witnesses said that multiple shots were fired from a vehicle at the scene and the suspects had fled.

“Officers on-scene located and collected spent shell casings,” Burnett said, “Other officers located a possible suspect vehicle.

With assistance from the Crittenden County Courthouse, video was obtained of one of the possible suspect vehicles fleeing the area.” Once the vehicle was iidentified, police were able to tie it to a separate case across the Tennessee state line.

“That vehicle matched the vehicle officers had located,” said Burnett. “The vehicle was unoccupied and reported as stolen out of Memphis, Tennessee and was used in an armed carjacking.”

Officers and Detectives of the Marion Police Department continued thier investigation and located another vehicle stolen from Memphis, also used in an armed carjacking. Suspects were developed which led to search warrants being issued and served.

“Multiple suspects surrendered to police,” Burnett said. “Another suspect was taken into custody when a search warrant was served on the house he was hiding in. During the investigation several stolen firearms were located and recovered. Two adult males were arrested related to the incident.”

Burnett said the investigation is still active and ongoing.

“Thanks to the Arkansas State Police and Crittenden County Sherriff’s Department for their assistance. Also thank you to the Marion police officers who came in while off-duty to assist.
