Don’t be afraid of taking a little ‘Me Time’

“Life is a marathon, not a sprint…”

Y all. I m a sprinter (not really, but metaphorically; but also, when I ran track at MHS, I totally loved sprinting. I didn t win anything, but at least I loved it.) I love the feeling of the wind, I love pushing myself to go as fast as a can for a (very) limited time, and I love falling out on the side of the track — 1.7 minutes after I started.

In life, I love being busy. I have spent two decades taking on more than I can physically handle because all these activities are good activities. But the difference is, I don t get to fall out on the track in 1.7 minutes.

I have to learn to pace myself. And sometimes, to just take a break all together.

When I was growing up, REST was never talked about in all my spiritual lessons. Everything that shaped me was all about doing more, being more and if you feel like youve hit your limit physically, well then you must be doing it in your own power and not in the power of the Holy Spirit. (Seriously, now adding guilt on top of exhaustion.) Dear Christian friend, it is not just okay to take a break from your Activities, it is kind of commanded (Hello? The whole Fourth Commandment Thing? about the Sabbath??

Interesting note: God commanded the Israelites to also let the land take a Sabbath for a whole year every seventh year, which basically means these agricultural societies took a whole year off work every SEVEN YEARS!!! Can we please build this into America??) Our bodies are not immortal or impervious to the consequences of adrenaline fatigue or sleep deprivation.

Prioritize Rest.

Be released from the guilt.

Jesus took naps, too.

The Marion Mom, Dorothy Wilson lives in Marion with her husband Chris as they enjoy all of the adventures life with their seven children provides… and an occasional nap.
