College’s newest program is in Computer and Database Programming

www.asumidsouth.edu Arkansas State University Mid-South is pleased to announce that the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board (AHECB) recently approved Mid-South’s proposal to offer a new Associate of Applied Science degree program in Computer and Database Programming.

ASU Mid-South’s program, which began with the recently begun Fall 2021 semester, aligns with Governor Asa Hutchinson’s Computer Science Initiative to bring more computer programming and related occupations to Arkansas. The program consists of two certificates of proficiency, a technical certificate and the associate of applied science degree with opportunities to earn industry-related certificates in applications such as Oracle and Java along the way.

Job seekers with in-demand computer skills and industry certifications can qualify for high-wage jobs.

The new program will be funded through a $2.25 million Title III Strengthening Institutions grant which will support the cost of critical resources, such as faculty, equipment, supplies, and renovation of classroom lab space. Regional Workforce Grant funding will provide additional support to the College’s existing Information Systems Technology program, which will share space and resources with the new Computer Programming program, and offers complementary programs of study.
