ASU Mid- South beats South Arkansas CC at home, falls to UACossatot on the road

news@theeveningtimes.com The ASU Mid-South Greyhounds jumped out to an 18-point lead at the half and never looked back, taking a 98-74 victory over the South Arkansas Community College Stars last Thursday at The Dog House.

Shooting 56.2% from the field and 41.2% from the three-point line, the Greyhounds also dominated the boards 51-36 over the smaller Stars.

Kylon McCullough led the way with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists while Jeremiah Jones scored 17 points and Spencer Simes finished with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Sam Smith collected 8 rebounds as he and Kevin Fulton scored 9 points each, and Monroe Carr finished with 8 points and Jordan Rainey chipped in 7 points.

ASU Mid-South then travels to Lockesburg, Arkansas on Saturday for a rematch against UACossatot. The Greyhounds won the home meeting with the Colts, an 89-70 victory back on Feb. 27.

However, shooting a paltry 20% from the three-point line, the Greyhounds succumbed in the second half to drop an 86-79 decision to UA-Cossatot in the historic University of Arkansas Cossatot Bank of Lockesburg Gymnasium in Lockesburg.

Tied at 47-47 at halftime, the Greyhounds saw the host Colts open the second half with a 7-0 run to jump out to a lead they would never relinquish. The Greyhounds just couldn't find the mark as they could get no closer than 6 points the rest of the game.

McCullough again shined, scoring 21 points and pulled down 8 rebounds while Smith just missed a double-double, scoring 19 points and collecting 9 boards. Jones put in 17 points with 6 rebounds, and Simes finished with 8 points and 3 assists.

The Greyhounds were also on the short end of the rebounding battle, 39-36, and committed two more turnovers, 15-13. And while ASU Mid-South limited the Colts to 9-of-31 from the arc (29.0%), they were in control the second half thanks to a 27-point, 14-rebound, 8-assist performance from Terry Anderson.

The Greyhounds (13-3, 52) look to regroup quickly as they travel to North Arkansas College Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m.
