If the new owners of the recently renamed Greens and Fairways apartments are going to make improvements in the safety and security of the Marion apartment complex, it can’t come soon enough for residents there. Gunshots cracked during the noon hour at the Greenways of Marion apartments last Thursday, leaving one West Memphis man dead at the scene. An errant call went out on the police radio that an officer-involved shooting was underway. The Arkansas State Police and the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department rushed to the scene to help Marion Police.

However, when police made the scene of the shooting on Birdie Drive, they instead found 19-yearold Gerrell Parrow laying in the street. Paramedics arrived to find no life signs in the victim.

An immediate search of the area turned up no suspect.

Marion Police Detective Sgt. Paul Turney offered an updated status report yesterday.

“Paramedics arrived but due to the severity of the gunshot wound the subject had no life signs,” said Turney. “The body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab. At this time, this is an active criminal investigation by the Marion Police Department.”
