West Memphis Police Chief Eddie West reported two separate shootings on Saturday, Sept. 19. Both shootings happened at about the same time and police eliminated any connection of reprisal.

One victim was shot on the northeast side of the city. A man was wounded in the lower calf in the vicinity of 14th Street and Goodwin at about 8 p.m.

At the same time police were dispatched to a shooting scene on the southwest side. Three people were shot outside a home in the 900 block of Winchell. Initial television media reports indicated five people were hit, but on Monday morning West confirmed three wounded, treated and released from Memphis hospitals. One of the victims was a child.

Upon arrival at the scene officers were informed there were three gunshot victims,” said West. “Two victims were transported to Regional One Health Medical Center and the other to LehBonheur Children’s Hospital.”

West said during a Monday morning interview each victim had been discharged from the hospital. Their names were withheld by police.

Police remained investigating the case and asked the public for leads. Anyone with information about the shooting in the 900 Block of Winchell is urged to contact the West Memphis Police Department dispatch center at (870) 732-7555 or Crittenden County Crime Stoppers at (870) 732-4444. All calls will be kept confidential.
