County requiring masks to enter buildings starting Monday

ralphhardin@gmail.com “Beginning May 18, you will be required to wear a mask before you enter all county buildings.”

So says Crittenden County Judge Woody Wheeless.

Wheeless made the announcement on Tuesday, giving those who will be required to make court appearances or handle other vital matters a heads up ahead of the order, made in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Court should be back in session on the 18th as well,” said Wheeless, “with limited numbers and everyone that is part of the court will be required to wear masks as well.”

Wheeless said masks and social distancing will be in effect at that time.

“Our bailiffs will be monitoring the courthouse daily,” he said on a Facebook post. “Thank you for your cooperation. Help spread the word so we can stop the spread of the virus.”

The post raised some questions.

Jim Mills asked, “Where can I get a mask that is effective and CDC approved? Is a used sock a suitable alternative?”

Tim Bolt was also in need.

“Where can we get some masks that don't cost a lot?” he asked. “Even if you can find them.”

Wheeless replied, “Caldwell Medical in West Memphis is one choice.

Cliff's Auto has masks as well.

Andrea Marconi noted, “There are a few 'no-sew' mask patterns on the internet. Google 'no-sew mask' and they should appear.

One uses a sock, another a t-shir,t the other a bandanna. Hope this helps.”

Wheeless also updated the state of the state as well as Governor Asa Hutchinson's plans for rolling back some of the restrictions in place across the state.

“Since yesterday, we have had a total of 121 new positive cases,” said Wheeless. “Of those, 21 are from correctional facilities and 100 are from the community with 27 of the 100 coming from St. Francis County.

The Health Secretary is concerned with the spike in the cases especially in St.

Francis County.”

As for easing up on restrictions, Wheeless and the governor were optimistic.

“The Governor said today that on May 18th discussion will be had about the re-opening of bars and night clubs,” said Wheeless. “He also mentioned May 20th as the date to discuss the re-opening of outdoor sporting
