— Families in Transition’s annual “Soup Sunday” fundraiser will be held on Sunday, March 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Tacker’s Shake Shack, 409 Military Rd. in Marion. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Meal includes: Soup or Chili, Cornbread, Crackers, Chips, Cheese, a beverage and a homemade dessert. Tickets can be purchased through Families in Transition board members, by going to the FIT Facebook page, or by calling (870) 732-4077.

Families in Transition is a West Memphis-based nonprofit providing shelter, safety and support services to victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, teen dating violence, sexual assault and elder abuse.

— Families in Transition is hosting a “Surviving Family Members of Victims of Homicide” Support Group meeting on Thursday, March 12, at 6 p.m. at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 209 Park Drive, in West Memphis. The group provides ongoing emotional support to help people deal with the pain of their loss and rebuild thier lives.

— West Memphis First United Methodist Church presents ‘The Reluctant Dragon,” a studet play featuring local young actors.

— Now in its seventh year Mid-South Health Systems, in partnership with ASU Mid-South and DeltaARTS, presents “Art and Soul” art show, debuting this Thursday night, March 19.

ASU Mid-South is playing host once again for the exhibit and the opening reception, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., in ASU Mid-South's Donald W. Reynolds Center. Proceeds from the artwork sold at Art & Soul goes to the artists. Artwork may be purchased during the opening reception or by calling DeltaARTS after the opening at (870) 732-6260.

— The annual Steudlein Learning Center Fish Fry fundraiser will be Friday, March 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. Drive-thru and pick-up orders only. $12 per plate.

Ticket must be presented when you pick up your plate. Drop by the office as Steudlein to purchase tickets. Proceeds will benefit Stuedlein Learning Center studenrs. Special thanks to Tacker’s Shake Shack.

4th Annual Marion Countryside Ride — Tour scenic Marion on your bicycle. Saturday April 4, Start time is 8:30 a.m.

— The West Memphis Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is soliciting public comments concerning the upcoming FY 2021 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP).

This Initial comment period will end on April 1, 2020. The purpose of the UPWP is to identify all transportation related planning activities that will be undertaken during the project year July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021. Through this program, the local transportation planning process provides a series of work tasks and related these to the overall planning process. Al-Anon & Alateen meetings — Mondays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays at 8 p.m. at 1233 Park Drive, West Memphis. Al-Anon is a mutual support program for people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking.

By sharing common experiences and applying the Al-Anon principles, families and friends of alcoholics can bring positive changes to their individual situations. Alateen is a fellowship of young people whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking. By attending Alateen, teenagers meet other teenagers with similar situations. WMHS Class Reunion — West Memphis High School Class of 1974-'75 are making plan for a funfilled weekend of mixing and mingling, reconnecting with old friends, reminiscing the fun and good times the weekend of June 26-28, 2020. Rooms reservations can be made at LaQuinta Inn by Wyndham 1550 N. 6th St., West Memphis by June 19.

Registration fee is $100 per person, non-refundable, $50 due by Feb. 29, 2020, and the remaining balance by April 25.

Families in Transition — provides support groups for victims of domestic violence as well as teen dating violence. We also provide 'Safe Dates' Adolescent Dating Abuse Prevention Curriculum to schools, youth groups and any organization focusing on youth ages 12 and up. Caregiver Support Group — The Family Caregiver Support Program of East Arkansas Area Agency on Aging will hold its next monthly scheduled meeting for residents in the area on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m., at the Senior Life Center, 318 Tyler St., West Memphis. The support group provides those who are caring for elderly or disabled adults the opportunity to meet others who share the same responsibilities. Groups are run by professionals and can help caregivers devise productive strategies for dealing with stress that may arise around difficult decisions.

The group provides education on diseases and conditions, stress and managing the care of others, available resources, emotional support and a quarterly newsletter. Bethel AME Community Grant Program — Larry Banks, pastor of the Bethel AME Church, 2304 E. Barton Ave., was recently awarded the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant for the 2019-2020 school year by the U.S. Department of Education. Applications are now being accepted for a maximum of 100 students to participate in the program that will be held at Maddux Elementary School, 2100 E. Barton Ave. Once the 100 positions are filled, all others will be placed on a standby list.
