Final pairings for bowl season are taking shape following this week’s penultimate College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings revealed on Tuesday.

The primary question entering conference championships is the race for the No. 4 seed, that coveted spot up for grabs between Georgia, Utah, Oklahoma and Baylor.

Postseason matchups will be announced on Sunday, but pigskin prognosticators are already projecting where many teams will end up in the 2019-2020 postseason.

There are specific rules to follow within every league. Entering the final week of the regular season, there were 72 bowl-eligible teams to fill 78 spots and seven five-win teams wound up winning, meaning there are 79 bowl-eligible teams to fill spots.

So yes, there will be one bowl-eligible team sitting home for the holidays.

But two regional teams will definitely be in the mix. Memphis is having an historic season and will be looking for not only an AAC Championship and a 12th win when the Tigers clash with Cincinnati in a rematch of last week’s game, they’re hoping for a bid to the Cotton Bowl Classic. Who will the Tigers clash with if they can seal the deal? Likely the winner of the Big 12 showdown between Baylor and Oklahoma. But it’s also possible that team could sneak in as the No. 4 seed in the College Football Playoff, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility that we could see Florida, Alabama or Utah in that spot. Should Memphis lose to the Bearcats on Saturday, the Tigers will tumble a little further down the pecking order and likely have to settle for an Independence Bowl or Liberty Bowl invitation.

Arkansas State faltered a bit late in the season, but the Red Wolves are going bowling once again. It will be a lower-tier bowl, owing to A-State’s 7-5 record, but most analysts have pencilled in a Camellia Bowl invite for the Red Wolves, along with the 6-6 Ohio Bobcats. This will be the ninth straight bowl appearance for A-State, which includes an appearance in the 2017 Camellia Bowl.
