Local single parents received scholarship awards at the DeltaARTS Schoettle Center Auditorium last week. The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Crittenden County made 12 presentations during its fall awards ceremony. Three of the recipients were on track to graduate in May 2020.

The fall scholarship recipients joined with family and friends for refreshments and shared their sagas of the educational journey.

The scholarships not only help with school costs but may also be used for household expenses, daycare costs, and commuting to school.

“Cham Percer and I have supported this program for the past 15 years and we’ve seen numerous recipients obtain degrees in education, nursing, human resources and other fields,” said county volunteer Wayne Croom.

“Its exciting to see the commitment and determination single parents have to finish their education,” said county volunteer Cham Percer. Our goal is to ease the financial burden of single parents wanting to improve the quality of life for themselves and for their family.”

The Single Parent Scholarship fund is statewide and aimed at creating more self-sufficient families through education, employment and empowerment.
