• West Memphis School Election —

The West Memphis School District is requesting a Tax Levy of 36.5. This is an increase of 7.5 from the rate presently being levied. Early voting will be Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, through Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, and Monday, Sept. 9, 2019.

All early voting will be at the Crittenden County Court House, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Election Day is September 10, 2019 and will be at the following locations from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Bragg Elementary, Faulk Elementary, Maddux Elementary, Richland Elementary, Weaver Elementary, Jackson-Wonder Elementary, East Junior High, West Junior High, Wonder Junior High, and West Memphis High School in West Memphis, and Bond’s Marine Store, in Hughes.

Larry Banks, pastor of the Bethel AME Church, 2304 E. Barton Ave., was recently awarded the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant for the 2019-2020 school year by the U.S. Department of Education. Applications are now being accepted for a maximum of 100 students to participate in the program that will be held at Maddux

the 100 positions are filled, all others will be placed on a standby list. Applications for children in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 may be picked up at Bethel AME Church or at Maddux Elementary School during back to school registration.

• Edmondson Wedlock Alumni Association — The EWAA is planning a special Labor Day Weekend event to celebrate the legacy of Edmondson and the Wedlock School.

Raffle tickets will be up for sale and proceeds will go toward a scholarship fund for eligible students. Raffle tickets are now on sale for the reunion celebration that will begin on Friday, Aug. 30 from 5 p.m.

Organizers will solicit new members during weekend event that begins on Friday, Aug. 30, from 5 to 9 p.m., with a barbecue at the newly remodeled Roadside BBQ on Highway 147 at Lehi. 31, there will be a parade beginning at 9 a.m. at Lloyd Campbell Park. There will also be vendors, activities and a walk-through at the Wedlock Elementary School Also on Saturday, beginning at 7 p.m., there will be a community gathering in Edmondson. Participants are encouraged to dress up, eat, drink and donate. From 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, there will be a picnic at the Wedlock Life Center, 201 B.J. Taylor St., Edmondson.

The EWAA’s goal is to support young people in their pursuit of their educational goals. A $45 donation will be required to participate in the entire weekend events.

• ABC Donation Drive —

Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock is conducting “A Call to Mission” donation drive in Crittenden County.

Items needed include hygiene products for both men and women, clothes, shoes as well as new under garment. Also needed are bed sheets, comforters, twin extra long and pillows.

Organizers are also asking for dry foods, crackers, noodles and canned food as well as school supplies for children in all grades. Cash is also welcome as well as checks made payable to Arkansas Baptist College. Missionary M.J.

• Community Prayer —

Community of Prayer Service (COPS) will be holding a prayer service Thursday, Sept. 12 at Grace Baptist Church, 1399 Missouri St., West Memphis, beginning at 7 p.m. The service is being held “in the wake of increased crime and drug issues.” Everyone is welcome to attend.

• Absolute Care Open House — The Absolute Care Management Corporation, 201 W. Bond St., West Memphis will be hosting an open house Thursday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend and be a part of the event to learn more about Absolute Care.

• Crittenden County Health Unit — The Crittenden County Health Unit will have special extended hours every Tuesday from 8 a.m.

until 6 p.m. These adjusted hours give the unit the opportunity to stay open later to accommodate those who are not able to come during normal business hours. Clinical services that are available include: Women, Infants & Children (WIC), nutrition counseling and support, birth control pick-ups, Depo shots, sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening and services, and immunizations. 24, from 9:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. No appointment is necessary. Insured participants are asked to bring their insurance cards. For those individuals who do not have insurance coverage, there will be no charge. A second flu clinic will be held in Marion Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 8:30 a.m.
