The West Memphis School District is requesting a Tax Levy of 36.5. This is an increase of 7.5 from the rate presently being levied.

Early voting will be Tuesday,

3, 2019, through Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, and Monday, Sept. 9, 2019.

All early voting will be at the Crittenden County Court House, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Election Day is September 10, 2019 and will be at the following locations from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Bragg Elementary, Faulk Elementary, Maddux Elementary, Richland Elementary, Weaver Elementary, Jackson-Wonder Elementary, East Junior High, West Junior High, Wonder Junior High, and West Memphis High School in West Memphis, and Bond’s Marine

Larry Banks, pastor of the Bethel AME Church, 2304 E. Barton Ave., was recently awarded the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant for the 20192020 school year by the U.S. Department of Education. Applications are now being accepted for a maximum of 100 students to participate in the program that will be held at Maddux Elementary School, 2100 E.

Barton Ave. Once the 100 positions are filled, all others will be placed on a standby list. Applications for children in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 may be picked up at Bethel AME Church or at Maddux Elementary School during back to school registration.

The program director is Sheri Lowe and the site coordinator is Karmen McNutt.

• West Memphis City Council — New meeting schedule: 1:30 p.m., on the first Thursday of each month; 5 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month, at West Memphis City Hall, 205 S. Redding St., in West Memphis. All meetings are open to the public.

• West Memphis Lions Club — The West Memphis Lions Club holds their meetings every first Tuesday and third Tuesday of each month at Shoney’s at noon.

• ASU Mid-South Annual Delta Market — Each Saturday this summer, through Sept. 7. Fresh produce, vegetables, arts and crafts vendors and specialty food. On the North Campus.

• Edmondson Wedlock Alumni Association — The EWAA is planning a special Labor Day Weekend event to celebrate the legacy of Edmondson and the Wedlock School. Raffle tickets will be up for sale and proceeds will go toward a scholarship fund for eligible students. Organizers will solicit new members during weekend event that begins on Friday, Aug. 30, from 5 to 9 p.m., with a barbecue at the newly remodeled Roadside BBQ on Highway 147 at Lehi. On Saturday, Aug. 31, there will be a parade beginning at 9 a.m. at Lloyd Campbell Park. There will also be vendors, activities and a walk-through at the Wedlock Elementary School Also on Saturday, beginning at 7 p.m., there will be a community gathering in Edmondson. Participants are encouraged to dress up, eat, drink and donate. From 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, there will be a picnic at the Wedlock Life Center, 201 B.J. Taylor St., Edmondson.

The EWAA’s goal is to support young people in their pursuit of their educational goals. A $45 donation will be required to participate in the entire weekend events.

• ABC Donation Drive —

Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock is conducting “A Call to Mission” donation drive in Crittenden County.

Items needed include hygiene products for both men and women, clothes, shoes as well as new under garment.

Also needed are bed sheets, comforters, twin extra long and pillows.

Organizers are also asking for dry foods, crackers, noodles and canned food as well as school supplies for children in all grades. Cash is also welcome as well as checks made payable to Arkansas Baptist College. Missionary M.J.

Furlow, Brothers G. Robinson and M. Rockwell and Sister T. Lewis are organizing the event. The drop-off date is Saturday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 702 Woods St., in West Memphis. For more information, contact Missionary M.J. Furlow at (870) 732-3371.

• Crittenden County Health Unit — The Crittenden County Health Unit will have special extended hours every Tuesday from 8 a.m.

until 6 p.m. These adjusted hours give the unit the opportunity to stay open later to accommodate those who are not able to come during normal business hours. Clinical services that are available include: Women, Infants & Children (WIC), nutrition counseling and support, birth control pick-ups, Depo shots, sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening and services, and immunizations. Family Planning Late Clinic will be the third Tuesday each month. For more information on services and regular hours call 870-735-4334. • Master Gardeners of Crittenden County Seminar — Saturday, Sept. 14 from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Marion First Baptist Church, 2137 Hwy. 77, Marion.

Registration 8:30 a.m., welcome and invocation 9 a.m., growing vegetables by Tom Mashour, 10:30 a.m. All about herbs with Evelyn Mosley, 12 p.m. lunch, 1 p.m. cooking fresh with David Lycidas, and 2 p.m. preserving the bounty with Meredith Wayman.

Pre-registration postmaked by Aug. 15 – $20. After Aug.

• 13th Annual Hometown Crawfordsville Harvest Festival — Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Music, car show, Veterans parade, arts, craft and great food. Paw Patrol will be here this year in the children’s area, drawings for great prizes and also the silent auction will be back again. • Families in Transition —

provides support groups for victims of domestic violence as well as teen dating violence. We also provide “Safe Dates” Adolescent Dating Abuse Prevention Curriculum to schools, youth groups and any organization focusing on youth ages 12 and up.
