WMPD using police- in-training to beef up code enforcement By the Evening Times News Staff

For at least the next nine weeks the West Memphis Police Department’s code enforcement division will be beefing up its patrols, Assistant Police Chief Robert Langston said.

Langston said six recruits with the West Memphis Police Academy will be assigned to work with Code Enforcement Officer Over the past several months, and ever since the police department assumed responsibility of enforcing municipal codes, there have been a number of ci- tations issue for everything from junk and abandoned vehicles, dilapidated buildings, excessive garbage and trash on residential property and other violations.

The department has been very successful in ridding the city of abandoned vehicles left on private property, says Langston and than effort is ongoing, Langston said.

The police recruits are being utilized during the one day a week they are not in actual training and will assigned code enforcement throughout their training period.

Cadets at the West Memphis Police Academy will be used to help out the WMPD with code enforcement. Look for Tse’Quilla Crayton, Kristen Counce, Myles Huff, Darrin Chase, Nicholas Anderson, and David Kohl out and about on weekends helping to clean up the community.
