Volleyball fundraiser draws crowd to J.W. Rich Girls Clulb

ralphhardin@gmail.com Cancer is a scary thing, but one thing Karyn Weaver can hold her head up and say is that she’s not going through her fight with ovarian cancer alone, judging from the turnout at a special event held over the weekend to raise money for her battle with the deadly disease.

The J.W. Rich Girls Club put on a bake sale and volleyball tournament this past Saturday as a fundraiser for Weaver, and the community responded with a strong showing of players, supporters friends and family.

Between the bake sale, t-shirt sales, registration for the volleyball tourney and other donations, the club raised more than $2,000 for the cause.

“I can’t believe so many folks showed up,” said the Girls Club’s Michelle Smith, who organized the volleyball tournaments.

“This is great. Thank you to all the teams, all the helpers and all the donations for coming out to the ‘Spiking Cancers Ace’ volleyball co-ed fundraiser and Bake Sale.”
