Crowded field vying for vacant council seat
West Memphis Ward 4 voters will head to the polls to fill Position 2 seat
ralphhardin@gmail.com Odd-numbered years are typically “off” years for voters, but in West Memphis, a few neighborhoods will be electing a new representative on the West Memphis City Council.
One of Ward 4’s own, Marco McClendon, vacated his seat on the council when he assumed office as the mayor of the city. Now, a special election will be held to fill that vacancy.
And voters will have a full slate of candidates. No less than a half-dozen suitors will be vying for votes in less than two months’ time.
The candidates have already drawn for their spots on the ballot. They are (in ballot position order):
• Jennifer McCoy
• Eric Parker
• Ida Long • Arburt Robinson
• David Murray
• Arlet Brown Jeffries The winner will sit at the council representing West
