West Memphis bats come alive against Lady Chickasaws

WM School District The West Memphis Lady Devil softball team crushed Blytheville pitching Monday on the road, giving them a 16-0 victory in the nightcap of a doubleheader. After falling 11-5 in the opener, the Lady Devils picked up their first win of the season on the strength of an opportunistic offense and the stellar pitching of sophomore right-hander Ta’Nyah Burnett, who struck out a third of the batters she faced on the evening.

In the opener, Lady Devil Lauren Walls went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a single while Nevaeh Maloy was 2-for-2 with two singles. Also with two hits was ninth-grader Kolby Garey, whose two safeties went for singles.

Burnett went 1-for-3 with a single and Tommie Grace Prater also was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate, with both hits being singles.

In the nightcap, the Lady Devils had four doubles from Haleigh Cook, Walls, Garey and Lakiyah Hatchett.

The Lady Devils will face Mountain Home on today in a home doubleheader before traveling to Greene County Tech on April 2.
