WMPD recognizes Crossing Guards

Police show appreciation for those keeping local kids safe

ralphhardin@gmail.com It’s not one of the more celebrated events, but Wednesday, Feb. 11 is National Crossing Guard Appreciation Day, part of a month-long effort to recognize school crossing guards and the often thankless task they have of helping to keep children safe as they are dropped off and picked up from school.

The month of February is set aside to recognize and honor Crossing Guards everywhere, and the West Memphis Police Department did its part to make sure that the West Memphis School District’s crossing guards were acknowledged. “This morning our staff went to each stop and presented appreciation gifts to our guards,” said WMPD Community Outreach Coordinator Tawana Bailey.

“It was great to see so many smiling faces!”

Assistant Police Chief Robert Langston and Major Stacy Allen led the campaign, with children taking time on their way across the street to hug their crossing guards.
