Man in Crittenden County pleads guilty to 2nd Degree Murder

Horne convicted in 2018 homicide, receives 30 years

Prosecuting Attorney MARION, AR — Second Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington announces the guilty plea of Jaimie Pernell Horne, 27, to Second Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons in Marion on Monday, Jan. 14. Horne pleaded as a habitual offender and was sentenced by Judge Randy Philhours to 30 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections (ADC) for the Second-Degree Murder, with an additional twenty years in ADC for the Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons charge, to be served concurrently.

On Jan. 25, 2018, the defendant, Jaimie Pernell Horne, went to the home of Mr. Lenard Sumner, 68, of West Memphis, where a confrontation between the two occurred. The Defendant shot the victim once in the chest while he was sitting on the couch. The victim returned fire and wounded the defendant.

The trial for Mr. Horne was scheduled to proceed on Jan. 15, but Mr. Horne agreed to plead guilty to his charges on Jan. 14.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Thomas Young, assisted by Deputy Prosecutor Mike Snell, prosecuted the case for the State of Arkansas. District Attorney Scott Ellington said, “I want to thank Deputy Prosecutors Tom Young and Mike Snell for their determination to pursue justice in this case. I also want to commend the excellent police work of Detectives Lauryn Dixon, Ira Roundtree, Matthew Jarrett, and Lieutenant Troy Galtelli of the West Memphis Police Department.”
