College Football Bowl Game Schedule

Plenty of football to watch on the road to 2019

com Including the College Football Playoff, 41 games will be played, and 80 teams will be involved.

The slate ends with the CFP National Championship on Jan. 7, 2019, which will feature the winners of the pair of semifinal games, Alabama vs. Oklahoma and Clemson vs. Notre Dame.

In an unusual turn of events, the First Responder Bowl has been ruled a no contest after lightning forced the game between Boston College and Boise State to be canceled.

Boston College led 7-0 on a touchdown run by A.J. Dillon when officials stopped play and cleared the field with 5:08 remaining in the first quarter.

After a delay of about 90 minutes, thunderstorms were still expected to remain in the Dallas area for several more hours, so officials decided not to resume play.

NCAA spokesman J.D.

Hamilton said via email that it was believed to be the first bowl canceled by weather. Hawaii’s planned second postseason game of 1941, against San Jose State, was canceled because of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

“In my career, this is a first,” said Boston College coach Steve Addazio, finishing his sixth year in charge of the Eagles and 33rd year in the profession.

“I don’t second-guess anything about it. The decision was made for the right reasons and that’s the welfare of both teams’ players.”

Associate bowl director Brett Ringler said officials met Tuesday to discuss the weather report and how they would handle the decision- making process.

“We followed all those protocols today and we finally had to come to a decision to cancel the game based on weather that was forthcoming as well,” Ringler said.

Boise was trying for its second straight 11 -win season after losing to Fresno State 19-16 in overtime in the Mountain West Conference championship game.

The Eagles were aiming for their first eight-win season under Addazio.

“We are all deeply disappointed,” Addazio said. “A lot went into this, a lot of work and a lot of preparation. Tough decisions have to be made. And they have to be made in the big picture of things.”

There’s a triple-header of bowl games to be played today, including one close to home featuring an SEC team.

First up is the 2018 Music City Bowl, beginning at 12:30 p.m., on ESPN). This year’s match-up features the Purdue Boilermakers taking on the Auburn Tigers. Purdue was just 6-6 this season but played against a number of top-tier teams, including a huge win against No. 6 Ohio State, a loss that likely cost the Buckeyes a spot in the College Football Playoff. It was an off year for the Tigers, who finished 7-5 and fifth in the SEC West, but Auburn also had a tough conference schedule, with tough losses against topranked Alabama and No. 5 Georgia.

The afternoon game is the 2018 Camping World Bowl, which kicks off at 4:15 p.m., ESPN. The match-up is West Virginia vs. Syracuse in a battle of Top 20 teams. The Hokies were an also-ran in the Big 12, but finished with an overall 8-3 record and lost a shoot-out 59-56 with No. 4 Oklahoma in the final game of the season that could have gone either way. The Orangemen might have been ACC Champions this year if not for an early season 27-23 loss to No. 2 Clemson.

Still Syracuse racked up a 9-3 record and had key wins against Florida State and Western Michigan this season.

And in the night game, it’s the Alamo Bowl. Kick-off is 8 p.m., on ESPN, featuring No. 24 Iowa State taking on No. 13 Washington State. Both teams feature high-octane offenses and this one is expected to be a high-scoring affair. Iowa State is the highest-ranked four-loss team in the nation, but those four losses all came to ranked teams.

Washington State was 10-2 on the season, finishing second in the PAC-12 North to Washington.
