Earle officials still want overnight police coverage

County providing protection when no city law enforcement is on duty

news @ theeveningtimes .com Earle may not have its own police officer on duty after midnight, but officials say the city is being protected with a Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department Deputy who is in the area patrolling and taking calls.

Councilman Kenneth Cross asked Police Chief Jerry Eaves at the November city council meeting whether he had made any efforts to assign an officer to cover the late hours. “Have we dealt with the issue of having police protection after midnight?” Cross said.

“No,” Chief Jerry Eaves replied.

The city has two full-time and six part-time police officers, but does not have anyone on duty to cover the city after midnight.

Cross has been asking the question for months but the situation has still not been addressed, despite being told that Eaves and Mayor Sherman Smith would try to find a way to cover the late night hours.
