Hodges was an easy winner, garnering 61.61 percent (3,857) of the vote against challenger Gary Tobar’s 38.39 percent (2,403). District 55 includes the entirety of Mississippi County and the extreme northern portion of Crittenden County, including parts of Gilmore and Turrell. ***

Race Headed for Runoff

LITTLE ROCK – There will be a runoff in the race for Little Rock mayor. Since no candidate received the required 40 percent of the vote to win, the top two finishers, Frank Scott Jr. and Baker Kurrus, will now battle it out next month in a contest that will be decided on Dec. 4. With 100 percent of precincts reporting Tuesday night, Scott had won 37 percent of the vote to Kurrus’ 29 percent. State Rep. Warwick Sabin finished third in the race with 28 percent. The other two candidates, Vincent Tolliver and Glen Schwarz, each received 3 percent of the vote. Scott, 34, is a banking executive, former Highway Commissioner, and former Director of Intergovernmental Affairs. Kurrus, 64, is a lawyer, farmer, former Executive Vice President and General Counsel for the Winrock Group, Inc., as well as the former LRSD Superintendent (2015-16). Scott and Kurrus are vying to replace Mark Stodola, who served three terms that started in 2007. ***

Clay County Votes for Change: Piggot, Corning Oust Mayors CLAY COUNTY – Clay County voters picked the challengers in two key mayor’s races as two incumbents lost re-election bids on Tuesday. In unofficial numbers from the Clay County Clerk’s office, Travis Williams defeated incumbent Piggott Mayor Jim Poole by a 680 to 552 margin, or 55.2 to 44.8 percent while Gregory D. Ahrent defeated three other challengers including incumbent Corning Mayor Rob Young. Ahrent received 441 votes, or 50.75 percent, while Mickey Hollis received 30.38 percent or 264 votes. Incumbent mayor Rob Young finished fourth with 39 votes, or 4.49 percent, according to the clerk’s office. Dianne Neill won another term in the Peach Orchard mayor’s office, defeating two other challengers. Neill had 58.5 percent of the vote while Bobbie Kunold finished second with 24.3 percent. Linda Gilland had 17 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s election. It was also a one-vote margin in the town of St. Francis as incumbent Teressa Johnson had 28 votes, followed by Charles Conley with 27 votes.
