DeltaARTS welcomes artist Greely Myatt to Crittenden County

Works on display at Schoettle Center now through Dec. 7

DeltaARTS The Schoettle recently hosted two events to celebrate the opening of an exhibition of pieces by innovative sculpture artist Greely Myatt. A native Mississippian, Myatt recently made West Memphis his home and studio space, thus the exhibit title, WBest Memphis.

The exhibit opened with a festive reception on Thursday, October 18, and runs through December 7. The public is invited to drop by the DeltaARTS’ Glenn P.

Schoettle Arts Education Center, at 301 S. Rhodes in West Memphis, to view the exhibit. The Schoettle is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, October 24, guests brought a sack lunch and heard Mr.

Myatt discuss his art and technique at Lunch with the Arts. His presentation carried listeners on a journey, viewing slides of his art installations around the country. Lunch with the Arts allows guests to hear an artist discuss their work, as well as ask questions.

A Professor of Art, and the Sculpture Program Coordinator at The University of Memphis, Mr. Myatt’s sculptures and installations have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions across the United States, Europe, and Japan.

He received the Mississippi Arts and Letters Visual Arts Award in 1994, and his work has been reviewed in “Art in America,” “Art-News,” “Sculpture Magazine,” “ArtForum,” “Art Papers,” “Number:,” “Juxtapoz,” and “American Quilter.” Katy Siegel, Associate Professor, Hunter College-CUNY reviews his work by saying, “Greely Myatt clearly addresses the traditions of his native South, and his work is as good as anything you see in New York.” Represented by Sandler Hudson Gallery in Atlanta, and David Lusk Gallery in Memphis/Nashville, his work appears in numerous private and public collections.

The exhibit is presented with support from the Rockie Smith Endowment for the Arts at ASU Mid-South, where Mr. Myatt also has two sculptures on display in the Donald C.

Reynolds Center.
