First Arkansas Flu Death Of The Season Confirmed

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Department of Health confirmed the state's first flu death of the season Tuesday.

The person was in the age range of 45-64 years old, according to the department.

Reports indicate the deceased did not receive a flu vaccine this year.

227 Arkansans died of the flu last flu season.

This year, over 150 positive flu tests have been reported to the department since Sept. 30. This number is about two to three times as many cases as they had this time last year.

Doctors in Arkansas have asked parents to make sure their children are vaccinated against the flu.

Blood Found In Northwest Arkansas

FORT SMITH – Arkansas health officials are investigating reports that customers at a Rogers restaurant found blood in their food, according to KFSM Channel 5 News.

The Fort Smith TV station reported that a customer at a Pei Wei restaurant at 4895 W.

Pauline Whitaker Parkway said she found 'some red item' on her bowl of food.

She took a closer look and saw that 'it was clearly blood.' When she went to speak with a restaurant manager, another customer approached and said her granddaughter had eaten blood.The manager reportedly told the customers that a chef had cut himself while preparing food. He offered to return their money. The Arkansas Department of Health said at least one person had filed a complaint against the restaurant. Health officials inspected the restaurant Monday and found two health code violations that have since been corrected.
