Walker: ‘ We still have a few spots available and students can still enroll’

Marion School District Angela Walker, Magnet School Specialist for Marion School District, has been swamped since April assisting droves of families with registration.

“We are still enrolling students in our three magnets and will enroll all year,” Walker said. “We have worked our way through the waiting list and students are now in the school of their choice. Students can change schools depending on space available and their grade. We still have a few spots available and students can still enroll.”

Marion Math, Science, and Technology Magnet uses innovative strategies to engage the inquisitive child. The curriculum offers opportunities for hands-on learning experiences involving both mathematics and science labs.

Coding, cyber security, 3D printing, drones, sports science, and other state-ofthe- art STEM based education is woven into the state mandated curriculum.

Marion Visual and Performing Arts Magnet offers an exciting academic curriculum to creative students while also stressing the core academics. Through visual arts, dance, drama, and music, students cultivate problem solving, time management, teamwork, and effective communication skills. Students are encouraged to express creativity through a variety of energizing platforms.

Herbert Carter Global Community Magnet shapes young scholars into future leaders by integrating rigorous academics with high expectations in an environment rooted in global awareness and competence. Parental Engagement is both encouraged and expected as it is the cornerstone. Students learn Spanish as a second language beginning in Kindergarten.

Walker, who has processed hundreds of new applications, said the magnet transition has been filled with exhilaration and wonder.

She welcomes each new family with a smile, coloring books, candy, and what she likes to call, the Chickfil- A experience.

“Parents and students are our customers. We go out of our way to make them feel welcome and to show how much we appreciate them for choosing us,” Walker said.

Magnet applications and the school registration forms are available at Central

Office.
