CYT bringing ‘Willy Wonka’ to the stage

Auditions Thursday, Saturday for DeltaARTS youth production

Students kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to audition for this year’s Crittenden Youth Theatre production of “Willy Wonka Jr.” — a young-performer adaptation of the beloved Roald Dahl book made famous by a pair of film adaptations Produced by DeltaARTS and sponsored by State Rep. Deborah Ferguson and Dr. Scott Ferguson and season sponsor Evolve Bank & Trust, “Willy Wonka Jr.” is looking for local talent to fill up the casting list.

Director/Choreographer Emma Crystal and Musical Director Donia Wade are gearing up for auditions. Everyone who auditions will get a part, with plenty of roles to fill and plenty of room for extras, singers, dancers and actors.

Tips for auditions:

• Be Prepared.

• Memorize the lyrics and melody to a song of your choice. No accompaniment needed (A Cappella).

• There will be dancing! Wear athletic footwear (no sandals/flip-flops/boots) and pants/shorts (no skirts/dresses)

• Pick a Day. Thursday, Sept. 13 participants must arrive by start time (6 p.m.). Saturday, Sept. 15 partici- pants must arrive by 10 a.m. start time.

• There will also be an invitation- only callbacks from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 15. No new auditions will be seen during callbacks. The director will ask certain auditionees to return to sing again, read a scene for certain roles, dance some more or any combination of these. All auditions will take place at the Glenn P. Schoettle Arts Education Center, 301 S. Rhodes St., in West Memphis. Shows will be Thursday, Nov. 15, at 12:30 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 16 12:30 p.m., at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 17 7 p.m. In accepting a role, performers must be available for every performance.
