It looks better around Marion lake. Keep going. [Editor’s Note: I had nothing to do with it… but seriously, since you brought it up. There’s a lot of cool stuff around here, if we could just get everyone on board with pitching in to get it inshape] The Old Wonder: First black West Memphis School was hugely informative. The history of the school has more depth the negatives pointed out in the article. The class of 1967 had many graduates who went on the pursue a myriad of careers. In this class are lawyers, social worker, teachers, bankers, doctor, very successful entrepreneurs, and one of the most successful architects in the state of Arkansas.

Thanks so very much for the history. There are an enormous amount of positives that have come through Wonder.

Those of us who did love Wonder now and forever. We will always be the. MIGHTY LIONS. Black and gold forever. Love the article it was an eye opener to facts that I didn’t know. We have come a great distance. Many who have done studies beyond high school classes who are so very proud to be associated with the Wonder Lions, black and gold forever. Thanks for the history. Wonder is so much more than the very few you mentioned in the article. In addition to the accomplishments of the class of 1967 mentioned earlier one of the first fire fighters of West Memphis came from this class. [Editor’s Note: That was a very cool article. / wasn’t around in the late ‘60s, so I only have history books and old people to tell me what it was like, and I wish the generations that have come after me were a little more keen on what society went through in that era, from the Vietnam War to the Civil Rights Movement to the Cold War, so much of it is glossed over or just ignored these days. I found it fascinating that a magazine as prestigious as “Life” was at that time would come all the way toWestMemphis,Arkansas,to do a story, one that was incredibly inciteful and insightful in those days. Glad youenjoyedit] Pope Francis has acknowledged the sexual abuse that has been committed by many priests and clerics. The first step but there is a long way to go on this journey. Let's praise Pope Francis for condemning the evil doers and starting on the journey to a better world.

[Editor’s Note: I’m not Catholic, so there is a good deal about that faith and its practices that I don’t understand, but what I truly do not understand is how this could occur for so long in so many places and not only be tole?~ated but hidden, with the perpetrators being protected and shuffled off to another place where they continued to serve.

I know there are terrible things in this world, but this one is beyond my understanding. Hopefully,asPope Francis continues to push to cleansethechurch, thevictims can find some sense of peace andclosure]

.ocal resident Alex Hickman sent in a couple of pictures concerned with litter in the community. “I feel like y’all should possibly do a story in the paper about all the littering around Marion and West Memphis,” wrote Hickman. “I have been out to different parts of both cities and have seen just crazy amount of litter everywhere. Not only does this problem contribute to climate change issues, it makes our cities look dirty. We have recycling programs in place, but more needs to be done and more fines should be in place.” Help spread Hickman’s message and “Give a hoot, don’t pollute.”

The NFL season kicks off on Sept. 6, and hundreds, if not thousands of local sports fans will be tuning in to watch the Falcons take on the Eagles, but at least one TV viewer will be tuning off. West Memphis resident Jerry Blansett wants everyone to know that he’s skipping this season. “No NFL at this proud Veteran’s home,” reads Blansett’s yard sign, a protest of his own.
