Sheriff using social media to help find Crawfordsville boy’s missing pet stolen during burglary

ralphhardin@gmail.com There’s a special bond between a boy and his dog.

So, when a family pooch turned up missing after a home robbery last week, Crittenden County Sheriff Mike Allen took to Facebook in hopes of locating the missing dog.

“The Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department is currently working the scene of a residential burglary located at 3619 Highway 218, south of Crawfordsville,” Allen reported.

“During the burglary, the suspect or suspects took a dog from the residence.”

Allen said other items were stolen from the family home, including a laptop computer, large flat-screen TV, jewelry, an X-Box, an ATN scope and a drone.

The post immediately began to circulate online, with thousands of views and thanks to nearly 800 “shares” in just a few days.

The post has spread outside of Crittenden County to surrounding regions, with dozens of folks promising to keep an eye out for the missing animal.

Earlier this week, Allen offered an update.

“Between my post and the post on the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department Facebook site, we have had 670 shares of the post,” said Allen. “With 55 shares on the Sheriff’s Department site, we had this post reach 3,873 people and on my Facebook page we had 615 shares and no way of knowing how many people it reached.”

The sheriff urged residents to remain watchful.

“Please keep an eye out for this beloved pet,” he said “The dog was the family pet and again tonight a little boy is going to bed with tears in his eyes missing his best friend. The dog was not vicious and a very friendly young dog.”
