Arrest made in shooting death of WM 15-year-old

First degree murder charges filed against Kelton Moore for June 9 homicide

ralphhardin@gmail.com The West Memphis Police Department has arrested the man they say shot and killed a 15-year-old West Memphis girl earlier this month.

Kelton Moore, 33, of West Memphis has been charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of Jordyne Craig. Craig was fatally shot on the evening of Saturday, June 9 while she was walking home from the store with her boyfriend and her boyfriend's grandmother.

Moore has also been charged with attempted murder for shooting Craig's boyfriend, who is still recovering from a gunshot wound to the arm. The boyfriend, whose name has not been released, was believed to be Moore’s intended target when he accidentally struck Craig.

Moore is no stranger to being on the wrong side of the law. He has a lengthy criminal history, including charges of First Degree Domestic Battery, Aggravated Assault, Causing Serious Physical Injury to a Family or Household Member, and Felony Possession of a Firearm.

Moore was arrested Friday in connection to the incident in which Craig was killed.

Though no connection between the two incidents has been made, West Memphis police say that Moore’s 81year-old grandmother was the victim of a drive-by shooting three days earlier, on June 6, an incident in which Moore sustained an injury to his hand. A Marion man, 30-year-old Desmon Mason, was arrested for that shooting, although he has since been released on bond.
