West Memphis kicks off Independence Day celebration with fireworks and family fun

ralphhardin@gmail.com Get a jump on celebrating our nation’s independence with the return of the City of West Memphis’s Freedom Fest. Friday, June 29, Tilden Rodgers park will be the scene for the annual celebration of all things America.. Musical fanfare will fill the air and vendors representing local charitable causes and nonprofit organizations will line the north end of the lake in the early evening. And, of course, an impressive fireworks display will make the festival pop after dark (around 9 p.m.).

The festival starts at 5 p.m., with fun, food and music. Kids activities like face painting will be found under the many canopies that pop up along the lakeside. Taste some snow cones, funnel cakes, barbecue, and cold soft drinks or hot dogs.

The event is organized under the West Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau and funded by the Advertising and Promotions Commission. Freedom Fest draws from people from around the Mid-South region with the early festival date, the Friday before the Fourth of July the following Wednesday.

More details, including the live music lineup, are promised as the event draws closer. For more information visit the City of West Memphis on Facebook or watch the Times for festival updates.
