The West Memphis Police Department is keeping a tight lid on details in the ongoing investigation of a deadly shooting over the weekend.

A 15-year-old West Memphis girl was shot and killed Saturday night about 10 p.m. in the vicinity of the 500 block of South 15th Street in West Memphis.

Enforcement/Criminal Investigation Division Commander for the West Memphis Police Department, Captain Joe Baker said the name of the victim would not be released because of her age.

“A 15-year-old female was walking with another subject down 15th Street, said Baker. “Both of them were shot, but she passed away.

Somebody approached them and wound up shooting them both.”

No arrests have been made but Baker said the investigation is progressing.

“We have leads we are actively pursuing,” said the captain.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the West Memphis Police Department dispatch center at (870) 732-7555 or the Crittenden County Crimestoppers at (870) 732-4444. All calls will be kept confidential.
