Local leader recognized by national sorority at regional conference

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Emma Milliner Robinson, the 2016-2017 president of the local Pi Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., received the 1st Place 2018 Outstanding Basileus (President) Award for Small Chapters at the AKA 86th South Central Regional Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico in March.

The South Central Region consists of four states, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Texas. Presenting the award were the International President, Dr. Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson and the South Central Regional Director, Atty.

Katina M. Semien.

This is the second time Mrs. Robinson has won a top AKA Regional Award.

In 2014, she won 1st Place Soror (Member) of the Year Award in Dallas. This is also the second time Mrs. Robinson has served as Chapter President. She served as Chapter President from 1998 to 2001.

Robinson is a Charter Member of Pi Chi Omega Chapter, which was chartered on June 6, 1987. She is a Silver Member with more than 25 years in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and she is also a Life Member of AKA.

Robinson is a graduate of Wonder High School in West Memphis, and a graduate of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Business Education. She is a former teacher at Marion Senior High School and Shelby State Community College. She is currently a Senior Human Resources Specialist with the U. S.

Treasury Department.

Robinson is currently serving as the Chapter’s Leadership Development Chairman and Risk Management Chairman.

Mrs. Carolyn Anthony is the current local AKA Chapter President. Alpha Kappa Alpha is an International service organization, founded in 1908 at Howard University in Washington, DC, by women of high moral, ethical, and scholastic character.
