Shots fired from one car toward another rang out along Highway 77 in West Memphis Wednesday night. The volley started on the road in front of Ace Hardware and ended with one young adult man shot at AFCO Road, where emergency responders made the scene.

Police Spokesman Captain Joe Baker issued an update Thursday morning.

“Several shots were fired,” said Baker. “The driver was struck and transported to Regional One. He had surgery and is in non-critical condition.”

Police have not shared the identity of the victim or any suspects. Those involved aren’t talking to police.

“The victim is a black male in his early 20’s,” said Baker. “The driver and his passenger have not been cooperative so far in this investigation.”

The situation remains under investigation, though a suspect has not been named.

“This is still an active case and detectives are pursuing leads and collecting evidence to attempt to locate a suspect in the case,” said Baker.

Anyone with any information about this incident is urged to contact the West Memphis Police Department dispatch center at (870) 732-7555 or Crittenden County Crimestoppers at (870) 732-4444. All calls will be kept confidential.
