Marion choir ensemble to play Trinity in the Fields

Student singers will perform Sunday afternoon as part of Spring Concert Series

The Marion High School Choir Ensemble has been scheduled for the first presentation in the Music at Trinity Spring Concert Series. The Marion choirs perform, at least four concerts each year with music styles from all genres of choral music including classical, traditional choral, gospel, Broadway and popular music. The Marion High School choirs enjoy performing for community activities each year and are always proud to be asked to perform for our community. They get their chance this weekend with a performance conducted by Johnny Peoples this Sunday, March 18. at 3:30 p.m., at Trinity in the Fields Church.

The Marion High School Choir consists of students in the 10-12th grades. The choral program is proud to have students that not only succeed in vocal music but also participate in other school activities including athletics, drama, school clubs/organizations, community and church activities.

The group, under the direction of Mr. Johnny Peoples for the past ten years, has regularly received ratings of Excellent and Superior at choral performance assessments, including being named “Best in Class” at the Ole Miss Choral Festival. The winning multiplied in the Diamond State with sweepstakes trophies at the Arkansas State Music Festival as well as being named “Best in Class” and “Overall Ensemble” in state competition.

The choir holds a high grade point average. For the past two years, the Marion High School choirs have received the “Distinguished Academic Achievement Award” and the “Excellence in Academic Achievement Award” awarded by the Arkansas Choral Directors Association. To receive these awards, the combined GPA of the members of each ensemble must be a 3.25 and higher (Distinguished) or a 3.00-3.24 (Excellence). In addition to the group academic awards, over 50 percent of the membership of the choirs have received the individual “Distinguished” and “Excellence” awards for their individual GPA with most of those awards being “Distinguished.”
