ASU Mid-South hosts Bragg Student Leadership for campus tour

Elementary students get an up close look at college’s wide array of offerings

ASU Mid-South Twenty-four 4th -6th grade students from Bragg Elementary School toured Arkansas State University Mid-South on February 9.

The students, all members of the Bragg Student Leadership Team, were given opportunities to learn about a variety of training opportunities offered at the College, meet students and instructors, and ask questions.

First stop on the tour was the FedEx Aviation Technology Center where the group heard about the Aviation Maintenance program.

Students were encouraged to consider aviation maintenance as an exciting career choice and some of the students were able to climb into and sit in the planes.

Next stop was the Diesel Maintenance program where the students, including the girls, were encouraged to consider diesel as a career choice. The Digital Media stop showed the group some of the basics of film making and informed the students about that program.

At the Glen F. Fenter Athletic Complex, the group met with the ASU Mid-South men’s Greyhounds Basketball team. Students watched the team run drills and dunk. A few were able to get some pictures with Greyhounds Coach, Chris Parker and the Greyhounds team.

On the final stop, the students visited the ASU Mid-South mobile planetarium for a quick show, presented by Instructors Erin Gordon and Craig Lafferty.

To become a member of the Bragg Leadership Team, these students were required to complete an application and participate in an interview process. The leadership team performs a service project and makes a field trip each month, and this month’s field trip was a trip to ASU Mid-South.
