Lavonda Taylor announces for Treasurer of Crittenden County

Longtime West Memphis accountant seeks office

Announcing today that she will be a candidate for the office of Crittenden County Treasurer in the upcoming election cycle, Taylor has been a resident of West Memphis since 1969. She is married to Lonnie Taylor, and they are the founding members of Trinity in the Fields Anglican Church in Marion. Together they have operated an accounting practice in West Memphis since 1978, serving many, many citizens of Crittenden County. They are the parents of one son, Bryan, who resides in Maumelle with his wife, Heather.

Asked why she was seeking the office of Treasurer, she responded, “I believe I would bring extensive experience in a related business field to that position. I enjoy working with and serving people. It will be an open position as the current treasurer, Mr. Charlie Suiter, decided not to seek re-election. He has done a commendable job in that office and I truly appreciate his service to our county.”

“I have been involved in the community for almost as long as I have lived here beginning with Weaver Elementary School PTA and putting out yard signs in political campaigns.”

Laughing she added, “That dates me, I know, but it also demonstrates that I have been involved a very long time in this county. I served our state on the Arkansas Youth Board, the governing board of the state training schools, and the Arkansas Coalition for Juvenile Justice. I served as National Chair of the Coalition for Juvenile Justice. I also served with the West Memphis Jaycee Women, the Jr. Auxiliary, the Quota Club and the West Memphis Chamber of Commerce to name but a few. I have done fun things like starting the Business After Hours for the Chamber or chairing the Christmas parade, and serious things like twice chairing the Crittenden County Relay for Life event to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. I don’t say all this to blow my own horn, but to show that I have been involved in our community in all kinds of ways. I have always given back because I believe we are supposed to give back in all the ways we can. I have been blessed by being involved in our county.”

“Becoming a part of the team that tends to the governance of Crittenden County would be a privilege. The person who holds the position of treasurer is responsible for helping develop the county budget then watching how the tax dollars are used and reporting to those serving on the Quorum Court. It is a position of trust and stewardship and of partnership with every county government department leader. It is serious work. I would be honored to serve.”
