Gene Wallace Porter, 78, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017.

Gene was born on July 18, 1939 to parents James Irvin Mayo and Imogene Mayo in Memphis, Tennessee. Gene proudly served his country with the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army. After his service to our country, he went on to meet the love of his life, Shirley Porter. Together they spent the next 49 years before the Lord called Gene home. Gene was a member of the Cypress Avenue Baptist Church in Marion, Arkansas where he faithfully served. Gene leaves behind one son, Danny Porter (Jennifer) of West Memphis; and one daughter, Beth Holloway (Sammy) of Marion. Gene also leaves behind a sister, Dottie Adams of Grenada, Mississippi. He will be dearly missed by five grandchildren, Jacob Kelley, Danielle Bruce, Jessica Kelley, Katie Porter and Lily Holloway. Two great-grandchildren, Evie and Russell Bruce. Gene was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life for Gene will take place at the Cypress Avenue Baptist Church on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. Family and friends are all invited to attend.
