“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” … I’m beginning to think it’s time we admitted to ourselves that our Militia is not well regulated.

[ Editor’s Note: As someone who doesn’t really take a hard stance on gun rights — I have nothing against hunting, sport shooting, people who legally own firearms for their personal defense, etc., but I don’t personally own any guns and have no problem making folks jump through various legal hoops to acquire them — I find this statement to be very succinct in its simplicity and profoundness. I’ve heard the anti- gun crowd use the argument that the Founding Fathers specifically said that private gun ownership was expressly intended to be limited to forming a “ Militia,” and I’ve head the pro- gun crowd focus their argument on “ the right of the people to keep and bear arms,” but no one has ever, at least to my knowledge, zoned in on the “ well regulated” part. With the recent mass shootings, it might be an interest-ing approach to ask what, exactly, that means]

*** Mark Randall’s article on the Hogs is spot on! The Hogs will never be good in the SEC and except for a few years get spanked on a regular basis. I enjoy Memphis football but they play so many games on Friday night it takes away the tailgating fun and high school football fans.

[ Editor’s Note: Not gonna lie… when I read over that before it was published, I was fully prepared to be angry. I’m a Hogs fan. Have been my whole life. But I also support the Tigers. The only time I have ever rooted against them is when they used to play Arkansas and when they used to play Arkansas State. But even with all of that in mind, I wasn’t really prepared to read someone but the Hogs on blast. But you know, what? He’s right. And you’re right about him being right. The Razorbacks have the talent and the means to build a “ good” football team, but I just don’t see them ever being a consistently “ great” football team, and in the SEC, they have, with the exception of a few years during the Houston Nutt and Bobby Petrino regimes, been at best a “ beat who you should” team, losing to the SEC elite. So, yeah, I’m still going to root for the Hogs every chance I get, but I’m very glad to see the success Memphis is enjoying and hope they can run the table and get into a big bowl game this season. The Razorbacks would have to win two out of three against LSU, Mississippi State and Missouri to become bowl eligible, and with the number of six- win teams there are likely to be this year, I’m not even sure a 6- 6 Arkansas team would get ( or deserve) a bowl bid. Unless there’s a chance of a showdown with Arkansas State. I’d watch that just for the Facebook trash talk] *** You know what would cure all of Marion’s problems? A few more stop signs and speed bumps!!!

[ Editor’s Note: Wait, what Marion problems? But if that is, indeed, the solution, they are on the right track. I don’t mind the stop signs ( once I can remember where the new ones are) so much, but those speed “ bump” are a little more like speed “ ramps” the way they are structured]
