Teen killed on Marion Lake Road in apparent break- in

ralphhardin@gmail.com A Marion teen is dead following a deadly shooting late Saturday night/early Sunday that is still under investigation by the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office.

Cody Smith, 18, was fatally shot when he entered a residence on Marion Lake Road, just north of Marion.

Chief Todd Grooms with the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Division confirmed that the shooting occurred following an apparent break-in.

“We are still working with both of the families involved,” Grooms said. “It’s a very sensitive situation and I would like to have time to sort several things out before giving out any more details.”

The incident occurred around 3:40 a.m. Sunday morning. The homeowner found Smith in her home and fired at him. Smith was later pronounced dead.
