Suspect flees after crashing stolen vehicle
ralphhardin@gmail.com A carjacking that turned into a car crash last week is still being investigated by the West Memphis Police Department.
According to preliminary reports, the carjacking occurred Wednesday evening in the parking lot of the Evolve Bank & Trust on Shoppingway Boulevard.
“We still have very limited information about the carjacking,” said WMPD Enforcement/Criminal Investigation Division Commander Captain Joe Baker.
“The victims were leaving the ATM and were approached by the suspect, who was a black male with red rimmed glasses, driving a white VW Jetta. The suspect removed victims from the car and took the car and money.”
The victims, a man and his daughter, were unharmed.
The carjacker’s joyride was a short one.
“The suspect then crashed the car near Missouri and the Service Road. Suspect fled the scene,” said Baker.
“We are still analyzing the video from the scene and have processed the car but have no suspects developed at this time.”
