WM A& P changes meeting time

Board moves monthly meetings to 4 p. m.

every third Thursday

At its August meeting, he West Memphis Advertising and Promotion Commission voted to change regular meeting times. The board will now meet on the third Thursdays of each month at 4 p.m., beginning this month. The location remains the same — the east conference room of the Eugene Woods Civic Center.

The move came to accommodate the result of new work requirements of one commissioner. Some were sad to see the luncheon meeting time go.

“We can have dinner instead of lunch,” quipped City treasurer Frank Martin.

“Perhaps we can work out some cookies and punch instead,” replied West Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Jim Jackson.

chaired by Frank Waggener, representing the community of West Memphis. Two elected officials sit on the board City Councilors Ramona Taylor and James Pulliaum. City Treasurer Frank Martin represents the city administration tracks finances for the group and compiles monthly A& P tax reports and reports account balances.

Statute requires three members be owners or managers of hotels, motels or restaurants. Representing the hotel sector on the West Memphis A& P Commission are G.W. Sorrells owner of Comfort Inn and Suites along with a new Holiday Inn under construction, and Mike Patel has the Days Inn, Ramada, La Quinta under construction and others. Tim Wallace with Pancho’s, represents the restaurant industry.

The A& P is the governing board for the West Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau where Jim Jackson serves as Executive Director. The A& P has $1.2 million in cash assets and has recently undertaken projects to promote the city by funding part of the Delta River Regional Park, make cosmetic changes to the Eugene Woods Civic Center and the Civic Auditorium, and to place custom welcome to West Memphis Arkansas Signs on the Interstate highways in the city. The CVB landed a pair of state tourism awards for its work in 2015 with the Big River Crossing grand opening event.
