Marion School District, VFW recognizing local heroes at home games

Marion School District The 2017 Football season brings with it a remarkable reverence to more than pigskin: Patriotism and Honor.

The Marion School District has partnered with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5225 to pay tribute to brave servicemen and women during each home football game.

“We hope that our veterans will recognize that our community appreciates the price they paid to protect and serve our country,” said Superintendent Dr. Glen Fenter who added, “We should never miss an opportunity to educate our students on the real Patriots that we have in our community.”

The district is hoping the long-awaited gesture will find its way etched into the Marion community for years to come.

“I hope that it will motivate our students to think about their own futures in terms of their responsibility to help make our country a better place,” said Fenter.

Veterans will be recognized by the district, community, and football team who will present them with a token of appreciation before kickoff. Tickets are $5. Come out to the game and show your support.

The next home game is Friday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m., against Blytheville.
