County roads getting a little TLC

news@theeveningtimes.com

Residents of Crittenden County should notice a smoother ride on about a dozen county owned roads. The county has been patching potholes and smoothing out gravel roads from a list submitted by the Quorum Court.

Justice Albert Marconi said they made a list of roads which needed work and passed them on to the road department.

“We were just trying to help them,” Marconi said.

“Most of the gravel roads are in good shape. But QC

some of our asphalt roads have holes in them.”

Among those on the list were Caldwell Road, Crawfordsville Road, Farr Road, Proctor Road, King’s Store Road, Roseboro Island Road, Buck Lake Road, Old Hwy. 64, Stacy Road, James Mill Road, and Woolard Road.

Marconi said he asked his colleagues to do a ride through of county roads and report back with ones that they felt needed work.

The county fell behind on road maintenance around the time former road supervisor Joe Best died earlier this year.

“There was a time when Joe was sick and we didn’t have anybody until we got John (Lewis) back,” Marconi said. “And things got behind. So we went to John one day and said we did some riding around and he welcomes this list to help him out.”

Marconi said a lot of the road damage is from farmers.

“Each one of us saw this where they are using the roads to farm and not travel and are dropping dirt and turning around on those big tires,” Marconi said.

County Judge Woody Wheeless thanked the justices for the list and said he passed it on to the road department.

“I appreciate you getting out and helping us,” Wheeless said. “It’s a good list to have so if they see something we can get on them.

None of these are major issues and I’m being told most of them have been taken care of.”
